This book is about the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco where is well known as political and social activism district. It is, of the course, the gayest neighborhood not only in San Francisco, but probably on the planet. As the new kid in town, what I saw of the Castro was a fun area where people come for good food, strong drinks, and to party. It has a great bar scene with almost a dozen within a block or two of the Castro theater.
However, the Castro is so much more than what I saw on the surface. We have a long history of activism for gay rights, women rights, and AIDS victims’ rights. We have famous heroes such as Harvey Milk, Cleve Jones, and Roma Guy. For the reason, I chose rainbow colors and black for the book's main visual language. There are many different layers in this neighborhood and a proudly history which is hidden and not everyone can see it.
